In February, Wesley held a cross generational worship event that was quite different. After many weeks of preparation and hard work, our congregation gathered in the fellowship hall to enjoy a pancake breakfast. Excitement loomed in the air as our young disciples devoured their breakfast and looked on to the next activity.
For weeks, prior to this event, our parishioners had been awkwardly arriving to Sunday Service with armfuls of cardboard boxes wrapped in brown paper. (Thanks Amazon!) We used these to simulate the large stones that were used in the making of the Tower of Babel.
Each builder was outfitted with an appropriate "hard hat" proclaiming our love for doing God's work. Pastor Doug led the activity, and preached messages of Building Godly lives by having solid foundations. As our young builders quickly found, a mighty tower cannot be built without a solid foundation. After a few unsuccessful tries to construct by themselves (without a solid foundation), a few mighty builders stepped in. With Pastor Doug's solid words as guidence, they helped to construct a good solid base for the tower. Excitement exploded as progress was quickly made. Boxes were being handed up the ladders to the adult builders at a rapid pace! Before long, the dust settled, and WE HAD DONE IT! The tower didn't quite reach up to God, but it did reach up to the ceiling at Wesley. Working together, and with a Godly foundation, we were able to construct a mighty structure!
We stepped back to admire our work and sung a few hymns together. We reflected over prayer and with an impactful message, concluded our worship service.
But, we were not done yet! This was a cross generational event! Time for even more fun! The little builders tried to demolish their tower in a "Jenga" fashion. They found out how strong this tower we had built really was! It took many tries to remove blocks in order to make such a strong structure fall!
Wesley would like to thank everyone who helped to make this event a success. To witness the congregation come together, to enjoy God's love together, and to watch the smiles on the children's faces, this was truly a wonderful experience.
Wesley is committed to bringing God's message to the entire family. Please keep your eyes open for more fun and educational events in the future. If you would like more information on this important ministry, or would like to help, please contact the pastor today!
